George V. Gerler A funeral will be held Wednesday, April 10th, 2002 for 81-year-old George V. Gerler of Perryville who died today, (Monday, April 8th) at the Perry County Nursing Home. He was born February 3rd, 1921 in Altenburg, the son of Rudolph C. and Dorothea (Mueller) Gerler who both preceded him in death. He married Lorna Pilz on December 26th, 1943. She survives in Perryville. Three daughters and three sons in law also survive him: Judy (Weibrecht) and Larry Johnson of Cape Girardeau, Barb and Dale Burroughs of Altenburg and Patty and Kevin Thieret of Perryville. Two sisters survive: Norma Engelhardt of Cape Girardeau and Viola and Gilbert Theiss of Wittenburg. Eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren also survive. He was a farmer and construction worker. He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville and former member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altenburg. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion Post No. 133 in Perryville. Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 9th and 6:30-8:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 11th at the Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville. An American Legion wake will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m. A funeral for 81-year-old George V. Gerler of Perryville will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 11th at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Rev. Matthew Marks will officiate. The American Legion will provide the graveside military service. Memorials may be made to the radio and television broadcast at Immanuel or to Southeast Hospice.
