A funeral was held Sunday, November 21st, 2004 for 101-year-old Gertrude C. Brandel Elder of Perryville, who died Thursday, November 18th at St. Francois Manor in Farmington.

She was born December 10th, 1902 in Perry County, the daughter of Thomas King and Lena Margaret (Mattingly) Holliday who both preceded her in death.

She married John Brandel on May 4th, 1922. He preceded her in death.

She married Leonard Elder on November 25th, 1981. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: two sons, Roy L. Brandel of Ironton and Johnny D. Brandel of Farmington; a daughter, Meda L. Vaughn of Lafe, Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and two step grandchildren.

Three brothers, four sisters and a grandson also preceded her in death.

She was a homemaker and worked in the laundry at St. Mary's Seminary in Perryville. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Perryville.

A funeral for 101-year-old Gertrude C. Brandel Elder of Perryville was held at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Young and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Perryville. Burial was in the Brown Cemetery at St. Mary. The Rev. Jerry Willer officiated.

The Young and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
