A funeral will be held Saturday, April 2nd, 2005 for 89-year-old Norma K. Abernathy of Granite City, Illinois, formerly of Longtown, who died Thursday, March 31st at the St. Sophia Nursing Center in Florissant.

She was born April 14th, 1915 in Gideon, the daughter of Cleveland and Maude (Jaynes) Tidwell who both preceded her in death.

She married Howard Abernathy on May 26th, 1938. He preceded her in death.

Survivors include: two sons, Gary D. Abernathy of Silver Spring, Maryland and Howard D. Abernathy of Hartshorn; one daughter, Lois Matchett of Granite City, Illinois; two half-sisters, Melba Greer of Granite City, Illinois and Mildred Gregory of Dexter; one half-brother, Gale Minehart of Granite City, Illinois; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a son, Charles; three sisters; two brothers; two stepbrothers and two stepsisters.

She was a nurse’s aide at St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, Southeast Hospital in Cape Girardeau and St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Granite City, Illinois.

Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2nd at the Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville.

A funeral for 89-year-old Norma K. Abernathy of Granite City, Illinois, formerly of Longtown, will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Young and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Perryville. Burial will be in the York Cemetery. The Rev. Joel Sebastian will officiate.
