Rev. James A. Fischer A funeral will be held Tuesday, November 29th, 2005 for the Rev. James A. Fischer C.M. of Perryville who died Friday, November 25th at the age of 89 at the St. Mary's Seminary.
Survivors include a sister, Sr. Mary James of Indianapolis; nieces; nephews and cousins. He was also preceded in death by a sister and three brothers. He was a Vincentian priest. He entered the Congregation of the Mission, the Vincentians, at St. Mary's of the Barrens Seminary on September 13th, 1938. He was ordained a priest there on June 3rd, 1943. He graduated from the following colleges: St. Mary's Seminary, Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. and the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome. He was the Provincial of the Congregation of the Mission in the West and Midwest provinces, 1962-1971. He taught in the following seminaries: St. John's and Assumption Seminaries in San Antonio, Texas; St. Mary's Seminary in Perryville; DeAndries Seminary in Lemont, Illinois; Kenrick Seminary in St. Louis; St. Thomas Seminary in Denver, Colorado and the Rev. Fischer's last years were spent with the Nueman centers at the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville and Southeast Missouri State University, Cape Girardeau. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. this (Monday, November 28th, 2005) and 8-10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29th at the St. Mary's of the Barrens Catholic Church in Perryville. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. this (Monday) evening. A funeral mass for the Rev. James A. Fischer C.M. of Perryville will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29th at the St. Mary's of the Barrens Catholic Church in Perryville. The Rev. Jim Swift will officiate. Burial will be in the Vincentian Community Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vincentian Retirement Residence Fund, 13663 Rider Trail North, Earth City, MO, 63045-1512. |
