Donald J. Hartenberger

A funeral will be held Thursday, August 17, 2006 for 74-year-old Donald J. Hartenberger of Perryville, formerly of Chester, Illinois, who died Monday, August 14th, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.

He was born April 2, 1932 in Chester, the son of Oscar and Laura (Ebers) Hartenberger. He married Mary Kirk on July 31, 1954 in Chester and she survives of Perryville.

Also surviving are three daughters and sons in law, Karen and Bruce Lowry of St. Mary, Brenda and Steve Rahlfs of Arnold, and Donna and Rick Ebers of Steeleville; two sisters and a brother in law, Faye Magers of Chester and Fern and Robert Wesbecher of Hannibal; five grandchildren and one great grandson.

One brother, Roger Hartenberger, and one grandson also preceded him in death.

He worked in the construction industry for over 50 years.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran, serving in the Korean War.

He was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Perryville and was a life member of VFW Post No. 3553, Chester; and past commander (1985-1986 and 1986-1987) and past state commander (1996-1997). He was also a life member of the American Legion.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 16 at the Welge Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester. A VFW Memorial Service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

A funeral service for Donald Hartenberger will be held Thursday, August 17 at 11 a.m. from the Welge Pechacek Funeral Home in Chester with the Rev. Matthew Marks officiating.

Burial, with military graveside service under the direction of Chester VFW Post No. 3553, will be in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Chester.

Memorials may be made to Immanuel Lutheran School in Perryville or to Missouri Baptist Hospital.
